FOWLER MIDDLE SCHOOL ACADEMIC PROGRAM
At Fowler Middle School, our mission is to take our incoming 6th graders and, in three short years, prepare them to be confident, capable, and successful high school students. Our daily schedule follows a traditional middle school model, consisting of seven class periods plus a daily Morning Meeting designed to support social-emotional learning and community building. Each day is intentionally structured to address the unique developmental and academic needs of middle school students, offering both consistency and opportunity for growth.
Our academic program is built on a strong foundation of rigorous core instruction and engaging elective courses that encourage exploration, creativity, and self-discovery. All core and elective offerings are thoughtfully aligned with Tigard High School to ensure a smooth transition to the next phase of students’ educational journey. Fowler students are challenged to think critically, collaborate with peers, and take increasing ownership of their learning as they grow into well-rounded scholars and community members.
TWO-WAY IMMERSION (TWI) PROGRAM
Fowler offers a Two-Way Immersion Program for students that have been in the TWI Program in elementary school or students that are able to demonstrate proficiency in Spanish in middle school via the STAMP Test. The TWI Program is designed for students that want full command of both English and Spanish.
TTSD’s Two Way Immersion Program for middle school follows a 50:50 model. This means that about 50% of the student day will be spent in Spanish while the other half will be spent in English. We call this plan our Language Allocation. To participate in TWI, students will take one Spanish Language Arts course, in addition to 2 content courses delivered in Spanish. Spanish content courses vary by grade level to offer students opportunities to learn in both their languages.
In 6th Grade, students in the TWI Program have the following core classes: Spanish Language Arts, Spanish Social Studies, Spanish Math, English Language Arts and English Science.
In 7th Grade, students in the TWI Program have the following core classes: Spanish Language Arts, Spanish Social Studies, Spanish Science, English Language Arts and English Math.
In 8th Grade, students in the TWI Program have the following core classes: Spanish Language Arts, Spanish Science, English Language Arts, English Social Studies, English Math.
